We are back for this week’s iteration of Sizzle/Fizzle, the compendium of just who in MLB is hot and who is not over the past week, so let’s see whose burnin’ and chillin’ this cycle.
Sizzle
Hunter Renfroe (OF, Padres): He’s hitting .298-5-13 over the past two weeks with a 1.021 OPS!
Devon Travis (2B, Jays): Travis’ improvement has been slow and quiet and at the heels of his being sent back to Syracuse, but he has been hitting .291-3-12 over the last three weeks with a steal. If he is healthy he could have a solid final run.
Willy Adames (SS, Rays): The swap of Adeiny Hechavarria opens the slot full-time for Adames, who happened to hit .478-1-3 with four swipes this past week.
Ryan McMahon (1B, Rockies): Much like Travis, McMahon has been up-and-down, but since being recalled at the end of July, McMahon is hitting .324-2-7 with a .439 OBP.
Reynaldo Lopez (P, White Sox): Lopez got no wins over two starts this past week, but he tossed 14 solid innings with nine whiffs, a 1.93 ERA, and 0.929 WHIP.
Fizzle
Andrew McCutchen (OF, Giants): Cutch was 1-for-19 last week, thus modifying the struggles of his team over the same span.
Rhys Hoskins (OF, Phils): Hoskins suffered even more than Cutch, getting one hit over 21 at-bats for an .043 average.
Sean Newcomb (P, Braves): Maybe the questionable tweets got to him, but Newcomb got knocked for 17 hits over 10 innings last week to go with a 5.41 ERA and 2.10 WHIP.
Chase Anderson (P, Brewers): Two starts, 8.31 ERA, over just 8.2 innings is bad for Chase, bad for the Brewers, and bad for your roto team.
Russell Martin (C, Jays): Martin has a .201-0-24 line this year and though he is signed through next season, Danny Jansen looms and Martin is hardly a third sacker (though he has played 10 games there this year).
