Fout Wars Phase IV, Week 3: Bell Rings It

ESPN’s Stephania Bell rocked it last Tuesday at the Tout Wars daily contest, logging a season high 176.25 points, easily outpacing second placer Michael Beller (154.25) with Derek Van Riper, who nabbed third way back with 148 points.

This was during a week when just over half the teams even scored more than 100 points. In fact, poor Jeff Boggis and me — both scorched with bad hurlers two weeks in a row — are languishing at under 150 points despite two weeks’ worth of stats accumulated.

The overall contest is being waged at DraftKings and is nearly three-fifths through, which suggests the season has slipped away so quickly, but there you have it. The tourney is desperate for finalists not named Link, Zola, or Wolf, so root for Brian and Bret, and even Jeff Boggis and me if you will!

You can check out the leaderboard as the season progresses, along with a wrap-up on ToutWars every Wednesday.

For the archivists, totals are gathered for all participants over five four-week periods, with the top three point-scorers per period getting golden tickets to the survivor tournament. That’s where the player with the most points after three contests will be crowned champion. Additionally, the highest-scoring player over all 20 weeks earns a wild-card entry to the tournament.

You can see the Touts’ recommendations as participants suggest a pitcher and hitter every Tuesday on the Tout Wars site.

Enyel De Los Santos ($8400): The ultimate crapshoot gives me a rookie hurler facing a team that is only hitting .232 off right-handers. I need points so taking the underdog makes sense, and ideally the Mets have not seen de los Santos, thus he can confuse them for six innings?

Stephen Piscotty ($3400): The Athletics go up against Justin Verlander a formidable task — but he comes in hitting .333-3-9 over his last 10 games and ideally the hot bat will generate some points!
