I apologize for the late Hotpage this week, but maybe there was a reason. The news came Friday afternoon regarding Kareem Hunt and the release of a tape of an incident from February. Action to place Hunt on exempt list was quick, and the release from the Chiefs was almost immediately after. How many times do we have to deal with this? Why can’t these guys learn? Why was there no police activity regarding this incident?
Domestic violence has to stop. Maybe if enough of these guys don’t get second or third chances maybe the rest will get the message. Based on the information released so far, I applaud the Chiefs for their swift and definitive action.
On to this weeks’ DFS slate. For the first time since week three, we have a full Sunday slate, which provides many options in roster construction and contest selection. As I was building lineups during the week, I found myself using mostly players from the early slate. With that, I started to look at DraftKings early-slate single-entry contests and determined that is the place to go. Now, I do not have to worry about whether to fade Spencer Ware or just follow the crowd to huge ownership. I do not have to worry about whether Patrick Mahomes will throw six or seven touchdown passes against the embarrassment that is the Oakland Raiders. I do not have to worry about whether Adam Thielen will torch the Patriots inside or not.
There are plenty of choices to make on the early slate. Logic points to potential stacks of Panthers, Bucs, Rams. There are enough cheap options to construct a strong lineup going in many different directions. I went back and forth all week wrestling with Goff-Woods, Ryan-Julio, Winston-Humphries as a core. After the DeSean Jackson news broke, a Winston-Godwin-Humphries became too good (and too cheap) to pass up. It is easy to envision a scenario where Godwin and Humphries post scores 5x their salaries. And rostering them allows you to look at the upper echelon (i.e safer) running backs like Todd Gurley and Saquon Barkley.
Here is my lineup as of Saturday afternoon:
Jameis Winston | TB | $6,000 |
Saquon Barkley | NYG | $7,900 |
Aaron Jones | GB | $6,700 |
Chris Godwin | TB | $3,900 |
Robert Woods | LAR | $6,900 |
Adam Humphries | TB | $4,200 |
Matt Lacosse | Den | $2,500 |
Todd Gurley | LAR | $9,300 |
Rams | LAR | $2,600 |
$50,000 |
