Football Hotpage Week 12: Giving Thanks

First and foremost, way above anything sports related, we wish our friend Lawr a GET WELL SOON.

NFL fans can be thankful for the amazing 2018 rookie crop. The production across the board from this group is exciting for fans and fantasy players this year and for years to come.

All five first-round quarterbacks have started and won games this season.  While the jury is still out regarding Lamar Jackson’s ability to pass, the other four quarterbacks have shown enough to conclude that, short of injury, all will be serviceable NFL quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen have all shown flashes to make their respective teams feel like they have their guy. It will be interesting to see where these guys are drafted in fantasy next season and which one from the group can make that big leap to star.

Speaking of star, we do not have to wait to see that Saquon Barkley is a star. But he has not been the only rookie running back to produce through week 11 of their rookie seasons. While it took a while for them to see significant time on the field, Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, and Kerryon Johnson (shout out to the SEC) all have the look of future stars. My guess is that Chubb and Johnson are gone by the 2-3 turn in next year’s drafts. Michel might last a little longer depending on the clutter of the New England backfield.

Rookie wide receivers are rarely fantasy relevant, but that has not been the case in 2019. But while they have shown flashes of why they were drafted, all have been highly inconsistent. We saw in week 11 what D.J. Moore can do, and many fantasy players missed on Calvin Ridley’s three touchdown game after a zero in week one. Courtland Sutton has shown enough in Denver for them to be comfortable in trading Demaryius Thomas. Christian Kirk is a big play waiting to happen in Arizona on every snap. In recent weeks, we have seen Anthony Miller, Tre’Quan Smith, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (shout out to the American Athletic Conference) show off their skills.

On to DFS for week 12. The most fantasy appealing game on the slate is the 49ers-Bucs, so we are going to stack the 49ers and include a Bucs wide receiver. The rest of the lineup is still in flux, but as of now…

Nick Mullens SF $5,400
Matt Breida SF $5,700
Nick Chubb Cle $6,300
Antonio Brown Pit $8,700
Chris Godwin TB $4,100
Curtis Samuel Car $3,800
