Flat-footed or Fleet-footed: Which is the Best Step?

It is already struggle time for me with respect to my numerous season-long fantasy football teams for 2018.

Among the nine basic teams I attempt to drive, only three managed to come through winners over Week 1.

My problem in general with said football teams is my squads do indeed tend to start off strong, and thus early on it is hard to make changes with something that does not yet seem to be broken.

Indeed I have some worry spots. Ronald Jones has done nothing but drop in estimation, while Alex Collins has been handed the ball but doesn’t seem capable of breaking away from the pack. Furthermore, Chris Hogan seems like an afterthought, as does Corey Clement. But what about Alshon Jeffery and now Martavis Bryant? Talented, but busts?

And what about the likes of Duke Johnson, Theo Reddick, Bilal Powell, and now Tarik Cohen?  All valuable in PPR formats, but not worth a lot beyond. Did I over-invest in these guys? And, while I know by the end of the season half these guys will be chalking up points, knowing who is the dead meat now would be an enormous help.

Right now, however, the problem is just what to add? Surely despite the bevvy of TD scorers last week, I could find very little beyond James Conners and Sam Darnold — both of whom would start out as bench speculation — I felt were really worth much of a FAAB investment.

I did wrangle Cole Beasley in one league for a buck liking wide receivers who seem to cull the favor of the QB, and Beasley seems to get Dak Prescott’s attention much like Cooper Kupp gets the glance of Jared Goff.

But, somehow among the likes of Phillip Lindsay, Donte Pettis, John Ross, John Brown, Will Dissley, Phillip Dorsett and the other first-week surprise scorers, none of these guys looked like much a of a bet to play any kind of evolving or serious role in their respective teams offense come Week 2, let alone say Weeks 5 through 16.

So, though I am indeed trying to stay on top of the waiver game and pro-actively replace what appears to be early season dead meat, I am trying to do this replacement process judiciously.

I just have to be careful and not be too conservative and get caught flat-footed when some legitimate help is out there for the purchase.

And I certainly have to appreciate having the likes of Kareem Hunt, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown and Alvin Kamara on just a few squads helping me have a core that should be good for the season.

Ugh, and we are just through Week 1! Wait till my therapist has to hear about Week 14, and he might suggest I need not come back till pitchers and catchers report!
