Back to the mainland comes the PGA this weekend as the Tour Moves from Asia and the Far East to the Wild West and TPC Summerin in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As it is this weekend I will be in Phoenix for First Pitch Arizona, but that likely means some desert golf and that means hitting greens and staying out of the rolling patches of deserty gravel that is not exactly bunker and not exactly cart path, but challenging to hit out of none-the-less.
At 7255 yards, Summerlin has some length and with fall winds threatening the Las Vegas Valley could prove challenging, especially to big hitters. I tried to focus on driving accuracyand putting skill as the underlying stats for this week’s challenge. Let’s see who tickles my pitching wedge fancy this week.
These are the names I like. Don’t forget, you can join a foursome playing the DraftKings Weekly Hybrid PGA.
Webb Simpson ($11,100): Simpson has a pair of top fives since 2013 at Summerlin including a win that year and is ranked at 48th in putting and #98 driving accuracy. He has taken a break since the Safeway, so he should be rested and ready to grip and rip.
Beyong-Hun An ($9100): 1An actually ranks first in accurate drives and tied for 11th at the C.J. Cup last week. He’s made 19 of 24 cuts with three top threes.
Jamie Lovemark ($8700): Lovemark bagged his fourth top five last week at the C.J. Cup and has been hot with 21 of 25 cuts made. At #36 in putting Lovemark makes a good mark for at least four days of play.
Patton Kizzire ($7100): Kizzire did not go east with the main tour but did manage a tenth spot at the Sanderson open last weekend. at 31 in putting. His driving accuracy is down (#186) but he has made a little more than half his cuts at 13 of 25.
Martin Flores ($7100): A solid player when I select him, Flores comes in at #47 in putting and has 15 of 23 cuts made.
Morgan Hoffman ($6800): Hoffman ranks #10 in driving accuracy and at $6800 makes a great low budget pick. But, Hoffman has also made 16 of 25 cuts so he is hardly a loss leader.
