Hi Everyone. This is Todd Zola, Lawr’s long time colleague and friend. As you likely know, Lawr founded CREATiVESPORTS.com in 1996. One of my first writing gigs was a weekly contribution to the CREATiVESPORTS newsletter. After meeting Lawr at the 2000 First Pitch Arizona Conference, we became fast friends. In 2008, when I left Fantasy Planet to relaunch Mastersball.com, Lawr was there to offer me server space and support. A few years later, we merged the companies, with Lawr graciously agreeing to give up his brand and, together with Brian Walton, we ran Mastersball.
On Nov. 1, 2017, Lawr relaunched CREATiVESPORTS, recruiting a wonderful set of writers, most of whom were seeking a home to break into the fantasy sports industry, something Lawr took pride in.
When Lawr and I merged, he kept the spirit of CREATiVESPORTS alive, continuing to use his creativesports.com email address as well as maintaining ownership of the domain. No doubt, Lawr knew there would be the right time to separate and relaunch his site.
Today, I’d like to announce Lawr’s spirit will be kept alive. With the help of Brian and blessing of Lawr’s wife, Diane, I’m taking over ownership and administrative duties of CREATiVESPORTS. The mission will be upholding Lawr’s legacy of fostering and mentoring those who share his passion and enthusiasm for quality fantasy sports writing. The majority of the present staff will remain, and we’ll begin recruiting others right away.
To this end, we have created a GoFundMe campaign, with every gift used to support the site and writing/editing staff. Once this campaign has ended, there will be a means to donate on site to keep CREATiVESPORTS a vibrant part of the fantasy sports community for years and years.
On behalf of Diane and Brian, I’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your generosity is sincerely appreciated. Together, let’s keep Lawr’s legacy alive.
He played some good softball, too! As his manager and one-time friend, we also watched the All Star Game and ate bbq for many years @ my house with my great grandson. He acknowledged my score-keep of that perfect game as Hall of Fame material! Rest in peace, my friend! I have some great pics of him and Giants players!
