Corey Kluber SP, Indians
The Klubot has been dealing with a relatively minor knee injury since right after the All-Star break, but he’s been struggling on the mound since mid-June. In seven starts since June 15, Kluber has thrown 38 innings with an ERA of 5.21, and he’s allowed eight homers during that stretch. His strikeout rate is also down with just 31 punchouts over the span, a far cry from his usual strikeout per inning plus. Inside Injuries projects his Return to Health date as July 27th, so while his Health Performance Factor is still Below Average, Kluber is expected to bounce back provided he doesn’t suffer any setbacks. Hang in there with the Klubot, he should be fine for his next start.
Kris Bryant 3B, Cubs
Bryant’s shoulder injury has clearly affected his power numbers. He has just 11 homers for the season, and a stint
on the disabled list at the end of the first half didn’t help much. In the 10 games he’s played since returning from the DL, Bryant has batted just .250/.362/.425 with two homers in 47 PA. Inside Injuries’ algorithm calculates a Return to Health date of July 31, and his Health Performance Factor remains Below Average for the time being. Shoulder injuries are notoriously slow to heal and they can affect a hitter’s power for an extended period, even after he’s considered healed. Bryant’s batting average may bounce back, but it’s a good bet that his power numbers will not. If you’re in contention in your league, consider trading Bryant to someone who believes he can bounce back this season. You know better.
Adeiny Hechavarria SS, Rays
Hechavarria has had a fairly productive season by his standards. As recently as June 17 he was batting .287/.315/.353. However, a hamstring injury in May caused him to miss time and now he has an oblique injury, something that kept him sidelined quite a bit last season. Since June 17, Hechavarria is batting just .244/.282/.333, making him untenable for fantasy purposes in all but the very deepest AL-only leagues. Inside Injuries calculates a Return to Health date of August 6, and until then he will continue to carry a Below Average Health Performance Factor.
