The temptation to pay high for a pitcher will be easy today as Max Scherzer, Chris Sale, Noah Syndergaard and Justin Verlander will all be on the mound. For bargain players, a few games look as though they can fill that gap with high potential for batters. The A’s will face Alex Cobb who has a 9.68 ERA; Dan Straily (9.00 ERA) and Brandon Finnegan (7.27 ERA) will face off in Cincinnati.
Weather shouldn’t stop any games with only a slight chance of rain in New York, Cincinnati and St. Louis
Michael Brantley ($4200): Pitching for the Yankees will be Domingo German whose home/away split stats are almost unbelievable. German is 7.36 ERA at home, but 0.00 ERA away with a .280 BAA vs left-handers and .226 BAA vs right-handers. Lefty Brantley isn’t a slugger but is hitting .337 with .907 OPS. With a batting average that hasn’t dropped below .300 since April 12, Brantley is a cheap and safe pick.
Josh Donaldson ($5000): Increasing the risk factor, mainly because you just don’t know which Chris Archer you’re going to get (like Forest Gump’s chocolates?), Josh Donaldson doesn’t hit for average but has a good chance increase his five home runs on the season.
