Crosstown rivals in Chicago kick things off with an afternoon contest today, so we’ll leave them out of this week’s DFS consideration. There are serious weather issues in Detroit, so all Tigers and Mariners are out, too. A little rain is expected in Cleveland, where it will also be a little bit cold, but they should get one in.
Kenta Maeda ($6400): The Dodger righty has a couple things going for him against Cincinnati — a less than fearsome lineup and Matt Harvey opposing him. Maeda is off to a slow start, but ERA predictors tell a better tale (3.25 SIERA) than the 4.02 he’s put up over 31.1 innings. His .366 BABIP suggests some bad luck, although a 38.8% hard-hit rate has something to do with it. The Reds should help correct these rates, and Maeda’s 11.78 K/9 and 0.86 HR/9 are evidence of some high quality work by the 30-year-old hurler.
Yasmani Grandal ($3600): Doubling down against the Reds, we’re getting a discount on Grandal because he cooled off a bit after a blistering start to the season, but it’s tough to sneeze at his body of work: .275 average with five dingers, 23 RBI and 18 runs. Injuries have pushed him into the heart of the Dodgers order of late, and he’s up against the aforementioned Harvey, who was lit up so bad the Mets relegated him first to a bullpen role, then to Cincinnati. The switch-hitting catcher will be hitting from the left side, where he’s clubbed all his home runs this season with a .925 OPS.
