We’re looking at several starters to avoid in today’s DFS slate, with a pair of top-flight lefties — Sean Manaea and Dallas Keuchel — facing off in Houston. Otherwise the aces are looking like heavy favorites, aside from another nice matchup in Zack Godley and Stephen Strasburg in D.C.
Nothing daunting on the weather front, aside from some Midwest storms that could delay a start or two and potential rain at Camden Yards. I’m still betting on Jose Ramirez to continue his hot streak against Erasmo Ramirez once the rain passes through Cleveland, and I’m paying up for catcher and outfield. There are still deals to be had elsewhere.
Yoenis Cespedes ($4300): I’m not sure why the Mets’ two-hole hitter is so cheap this week against San Diego lefty Clayton Richard, who is giving up a ton of walks, fly balls and an ugly 22.7 HR/FB%. New York could easily raise Richard’s 5.40 ERA by the time this one is finished, and Cespedes is usually in the mix — the right-handed masher is second in the NL with 23 RBIs.
Hyun-Jin Ryu ($5000): When Ryu is healthy, he’s one of the most fun lefties in baseball to watch. The 31-year-old certainly looked the part in his last turn, a two-hit masterpiece over seven innings against the Nationals April 21. Ryu heads to San Francisco for a matchup with a Giants team that has scored the second-fewest runs in baseball. Ryu posted 192 innings of 3.00 ERA as a rookie in 2013 — he’s clearly capable of excellence as long as his health will allow.
