Neither rain nor snow nor Toronto dome hole… will today be the day we get back to witnessing a full slate of games? Things are actually looking pretty good weather-wise aside from Pittsburgh, where the Rockies are lucky to be visiting because there might snow in Denver.
As for the DFS slate, we’ve got several question marks on the pitching side after clear-cut number-one starter Corey Kluber, which is why the Cleveland ace will run $3,400 more than the next best offering. David Price is coming off an injury scare related to his left hand, and the enigmatic Shohei Ohtani is up against the stacked Red Sox lineup. On the other side, slow starts have suppressed the prices on a few players we know will break out any day now. Let’s find some deals so we can pay up for the stars.
Jake Odorizzi ($12,100): Minnesota traded for Odorizzi this offseason coming off the team’s surprising wild card finish, and the 28-year-old hasn’t disappointed. Through his first three starts, the righty has put up a 2.20 ERA over 16.3 innings with a .207 batting average against, thanks in part to a lot of weak contact. Odorizzi needs to reduce the walk rate (13:10 K:BB ratio), but the Indians come to town with MLB’s second-worst team OPS at .607. Beating Kluber is a tall order, but Odorizzi is more than capable at a big discount.
Willson Contreras ($7300): The Cubbies will be well-rested after two straight postponements due to weather over the weekend. Coming to town is Adam Wainwright and his 5.06 ERA through two turns. Waino is working on his third season of “savvy vet” status, with ERAs of 4.62 and 5.11 the past two years. He’ll need to keep up the magic to get through the Cubs lineup more than two times, and the big swinging Contreras — hitting .288/.362/.423 with five doubles, though no home runs — won’t hesitate to try to get healthy off the declining vet.
