Buster’s Picks for the RealTime 50/50 Challenge, September 4, 2018

Want to take on the Creativesports 2.0 staff, braino-y-braino, at DFS?

Well, you can indeed at RealTime Sports, matching up against my Creativesports 2.0 mates and me, and get some bragging rights in the process.

Tune in here daily, as we pick up the Creativesports 2.0 gauntlet where you can play our daily 50/50 game ($5) or come right after us — for we will rotate experts — on Fridays in the free Beat the Experts contest. Beat us and you can win $2, and that might be easier than you think! Last week we gave you Blake Snell and his six inning, one run, eight strikeout win outing. This week we are equally confident.

Rich Hill (6500): Throughout this season, I’ve been pumping up lower priced pitchers, and frankly, my record has been pretty darn good. Today, though, I just don’t see a standout in the middle or bottom thirds. Hence, today is a chalk Rich Hill day. Hill is frustrating to own in a full season league as you just never know if/when he will be healthy enough to pitch. He’s healthy today, so that question is answered. He’s facing the Mets who, surprisingly, have been one of the better offensive teams over the past three weeks. Of course, those numbers are skewed as they scored 16 runs on August 15 and 24 more on August 16. They won’t get nearly that many off of the southpaw Hill. The players currently on the Mets roster have hit a combined .192 lifetime against Hill, with a meager OPS of just .637. Oh, did I mention that they strikeout against Hill at a rate of more than 40%? If you decide to go bargain basement, give a strong look to Cody Reed of the Reds.

Brandon Crawford  ($2600). Look, not even Brandon’s mother is likely to play him tonight, but you should. Rockies’ starter German Marquez is two different pitchers, boasting a 5.77 home ERA with batter hitting .303 against him in Colorado. On the road, Marquez sports a 2.83 ERA with opposing batters flailing away at just .192. Crawford is 5 for 7 against Marquez, and the two times he didn’t get on, he hit the ball well. The only hitter better against Marquez is teammate Brandon Belt. Belt is 4 for 4 against Marquez with an OPS of 3.250 (not a misprint). Belt is a bit beat up, check the lineups before you put in your picks. A Crawford/Belt combo would cost just 5,400 combined, and would put you in a great position to cash.

Best of luck. Don’t blink.

Buster
