Tyler Mahle ($4,300). San Francisco, other than last night, just can’t hit. They are last in the majors in runs scored against right handed pitching (with less than half as many runs scored as the Yankees). They are 22nd in the majors in OPS with a paltry .707. Enter, Tyler Mahle. Mahle has a solid 3.43 ERA on the road, and a respectable 7.3 K/9 away from home. He’s generally good for six innings, and has struck out as many as 11 in an outing this year, so the strikeouts are there. Mahle, the 17th most expensive pitcher in the contest, is today’s bargain starting pitcher.
Odubel Herrera ($3,700). Herrera has been on fire lately, and draws a favorable matchup with Orioles starter Andrew Cashner. In 14 prior plate appearances, the left handed swinging Herrera has tattooed Cashner to a tune of .429 and a 1.286 OPS, with two home runs. Herrera’s hitting .400 in May with a 1.200 OPS. He’s also mashing right handers on the year with .379 batting average and a 1.018 OPS. Simply put, Herrera’s a beast against righties, and Cashner is a below-average righty.
