There are a number of solid starting pitchers going today. I’m suggesting that you save your money and go with a previously relatively unknown starter pitching in the cavernous confines of the park formerly known as Pac Bell.
By the way, with the new month, skies are clear across the Majors, at least for a day.
Andrew Suarez ($11,000). This former 2nd round pick in the 2015 draft has quickly made his way through the Giants’ farm system. He has a 8 K/9 average, and opposing batters are hitting just .179 this year in the hitter haven that is the PCL. Suarez had a tough go against a solid Arizona team in his MLB debut, but now faces a poor hitting Padre team in AT&T Park. If you are fading the Scherzers, Sales, Kershaws and Verlanders today, you could do much worse than Andrew Suarez.
Trey Mancini ($7,300). It’s not that I’m that big of a Trey Mancini fan, although there is a lot to like. Rather, I’m not a fan of Angels’ pitcher Nick Tropeano. Trop rarely, if ever, makes it through the 6th inning, meaning that Mancini will get a couple of at bats against Tropeano, and a pair against a not terribly good Angels’ pen. Meanwhile, Mancini has quietly put together a solid start to the season on a thus far poor hitting Orioles team.
