Last week was a hit and a DNP as Zack Godley pitched the best game of his career, and Yan Gomes didn’t play (but at least I warned you). Today we have two reasonably certain sure things to bank on.
Chase Anderson ($5100 ): It’s a combination of Anderson being good of late, and the Padres, well, the Padres being the Padres. Anderson has a 2.11 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP and 33 punchouts in his last seven games (38 1/3 innings). The Brewers, while not a defensive-oriented team, are going to put runs across the plate, giving Anderson an excellent shot at a victory. The Padres, meanwhile, are the 30th best team against right-handed pitching, having scored the major’s worst 284 runs. They also rank last against righties in home runs with 58 (for comparison sake, the Red Sox have 124), 29th in average, and last in OPS. It really can’t get any easier for Anderson.
Edwin Encarnacion ($6100 ): This one is as much about Encarncacion as it is about his foe, Adalberto Mejia. Encarnacion has nine plate appearances against Mejia, admittedly a small sample size. However, in those nine plate appearances, Edwin has walked three times and has two hits, giving him an on base percentage of .555. We all know that the Indians are going to score runs today, and if you are looking at an alternative to Rockies, why not go with the guy in the middle of the Indians lineup who has 24 home runs already and has averaged over 38 home runs per season over the last six years?
Don’t blink.
